The Situation

Georgia added another elite defensive lineman from the state of Tennessee to its commitment list, when four-star Nashville (Tenn.) Franklin Road Academy defensive tackle Tymon Mitchell made his pledge to the Bulldogs official. He joins fellow four-stars William Norton and Zion Logue as Tennessee natives to pledge to the Bulldogs in the 2019 class. The trio could team up in Athens to form quite the formative front in the years to come.

What it means for Georgia

The Bulldogs zeroed in on Mitchell after he had an impressive junior season and while he doesn't do many interviews, it's clear he was a prime target for the Dawgs because of his potential fit on the interior of their defense. Mitchell is also a standout in the classroom and had interest from high academic programs like Stanford, Duke and Vanderbilt. His combination of football and academic acumen is hard to find and he should be able to have an impact on and off the field for the Bulldogs with his play and his locker room presence. It's also another impressive recruiting victory for Georgia in the state of Tennessee, landing the trio of defensive linemen in the Class of 2019 on the heels of stealing way the state's top player, five-star offensive lineman Cade Mays in 2018.

Why is hurts for the schools that missed

Vanderbilt seems like the biggest loser in this battle as they had been quietly making up ground for Mitchell over the past few months. He's been on campus several times and the chance to play close to home and get a top-notch education was high on his list. However, he couldn't pass up a chance to play for the Dawgs and it stings for the Commodores who will now have to look elsewhere to fill the void left by Mitchell. Stanford and Duke also suffer a blow for similar reasons, but both programs were viewed as long shots behind Georgia and Vanderbilt over the last few months. The one school not in the discussion is Tennessee, which recruited Mitchell hard early before communication broke down between the two sides. It's still worth noting that the Vols will have to face off against Mitchell and two other four-star linemen from the Volunteer State for years to come.
