Georgia gets No. 1 OG Jamaree Salyer

There was not a lot of drama surrounding the recruitment of Jamaree Salyer. The No. 1 offensive guard did change his announcement date once or twice, but that was about it up until last week.

There was chatter about Salyer re-thinking his decision to sign during the early signing period, but after taking his official visit to Georgia over, he announced that he would stay with the plan and sign December 20.

The 6-foot-4, 305 pound five-star offensive guard out of Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy has signed with Georgia over Clemson.

"Things changed with Georgia and me when Kirby Smart came in and hired coach [Sam] Pittman," said Salyer. "I just connected with the new staff better than the old staff — especially the offensive line coach.

"Coach Pittman is a great coach and a great man. He has a great personality, he is a great teacher and we have really connected."

Salyer took and official visit to Florida earlier this month and schools like Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC were chasing him until he cut his list down earlier this year.

He saw his close friend and former teammate Andrew Thomas start at right tackle for Georgia in 2017, he saw Georgia win the SEC Championship, he has coach Smart change the culture in Athens and he is now set to be part of the in-state program.

"I have known coach Smart since he was at Alabama and he is doing big things at Georgia. He has really changed things there and I like what is going on.

"I have been there a lot and I am very comfortable around the coaches and the players there. I feel at home at Georgia. It is a school that can set me up for life after football too with all of its networking, so that is important to me too."

With Salyer's commitment, Georgia now has five five-star commitments in the 2018 class.
