Georgia DE favors Dawgs

Buford (Ga.) has won three consecutive championships and is nearing a 50 consecutive game win streak. The small classification 2A Georgia school could be the best small school program in America. Last year alone the school had five players sign Division I papers and one signed with a I-AA school. This year the Wolves may have as many as three and the biggest name of the bunch could be defensive end Thor Merrow.
“I don’t have any offers yet, but I have gotten a lot of interest from a lot of different schools,” Merrow said.

“Georgia, Ball State, Wisconsin, UCLA, Florida and Auburn all send me mail pretty regularly. Other schools have sent me stuff once or twice, but with those it comes in about once a week or so.”
At 6-foot-3, 235 pounds, Merrow runs the 40 yard dash in 4.6 seconds and also serves time at tight end. It’s on the defensive side of the ball though that he will likely play on the next level.
“I want to play defensive end, but I guess I would play tight end if a school wanted me there. I think I’m a better defensive end.”
He is unsure whether he will attend any team camps this summer, but does plan to attend the NIKE camp at Georgia Tech on May 8th.
“I went to Georgia day for junior day last weekend. It was a really good visit and I liked the coaches there a lot. Their facilities are pretty amazing. I am going back this weekend for their spring game.”
There is only one school that he knows for sure that he likes, but says he wants to look around at all options.
“I know I like Georgia, because it’s a great school and I’m really familiar with it. Other than that I am pretty open to anyone who is recruiting me. I just want to take some visits and see some places for myself.”
