Georgia DE commits to Wake Forest

Wake Forest has picked up some help along the defensive line. The Demon Deacons landed 6-foot-1, 234-pound defensive end Derricus Ellis out of Rome (Ga.) Darlington over offers from Duke and Vanderbilt.
"I actually committed in late July," he said. "I visited a few other places, but after being at Wake Forest. That's where I wanted to be. I like the coaches and players and when I went down it seemed like a real good fit."

What was it about the coaches and players that stood out to the two-star prospect?
"When I visited, I talked to the coaches and they made me feel like they cared about me as a person," he said. "I especially talked the most to coach Hood, my recruiter. After I committed, they all sent me handwritten letters welcoming me. That was a nice touch.
"As for the players, my brother is down there and I've gotten to know a lot of them. They made me feel like I was one of them. I can say since my brother is there, it wasn't a deciding factor, but helped a lot."
Certainly academics were important in Ellis's decision as well.
"I felt like Wake Forest is not too big of a school and can provide me with a top football program and a great education. It's also a chance for me to play."
Speaking of playing time, when will the Peach State lineman see the field?
"When I talked to coach Hood, he said they'll look at me as a defensive end since that's what they need the most and will get me on the field the fastest. It's up to me when I play. If I come in and am ready then I'll see the field."
Ellis confirmed he plans to head up for Wake Forest's homecoming game against Navy later this season.
