Georgia DB Malik Williams commits to Nebraska

Buford (Ga.) is one of the top high school programs in the country, and like always, it is loaded again with talent in the class of 2021.

They will have double-digit players sign scholarships this cycle and they have already had one (Gabe Irvin) prospect commit to Nebraska — and now, they have two.

Long, physical defensive back Malik Williams is headed for Lincoln.

"It came down to Nebraska and Florida State and I called up coach Fisher and coach Frost Monday night to give them my commitment," said Williams.

"They offered me during my sophomore year, then they really started recruiting me hard my junior year and I have really developed a bond with coach Fisher. I have not visited yet, but I have been doing virtual visits with them, we have been talking a lot and I feel really good about Nebraska."

Not only has Williams had teammate Irvin in his ear about the Huskers, but he is very close to current Nebraska student-athlete Myles Farmer as well.

Having Farmer actually there, in the program, has helped Williams with this decision.

"Myles and I are very close. We have worked out together, we talk almost every day and he has told me a lot about what it is like at Nebraska.

"One thing he told me that really stood out is how it is a great mixture between the coaches and the players. It is not all about the coaches, but the players are there for each other too. They all care about each other, the coaches and the players are there for each other, and that is something Myles has shared with me."

Through the communication with the coaches, Williams sees what Farmer is talking about.

"What it really came down to was the family culture and the tradition at Nebraska," said Williams. "Seeing how things are on the virtual visits, hearing what the coaches have to say and just seeing how it is like a big family there shows me it is a place that I can go and be happy at.

"The culture there really looks like it will be great for me. That was really pushed Nebraska over Florida State for me."

In 2017, LeAnthony Williams signed with Clemson, so the younger brother went through the process with him a few years ago. This year of 2020 has been different on so many levels due to the coronavirus, so the recruiting process hasn't been for Malik like it was for LeAnthony.

Committing this summer was always the plan though, so although spring practice was canceled and recruits have not been allowed to visit college campuses since early March, Williams feels really good about wearing that Nebraska red in the future.

"I really can't wait to get out to Nebraska for a visit," said Williams. "I have had the virtual visits, I have heard about it and I can't wait to see it.

"My brother always told me to keep working, to keep grinding, he has always encouraged me, and now, I get to commit to Nebraska.

"I heard in coach Frost's voice how excited he was when I committed, and he said he is ready for me to come ball out for Nebraska.

"I can't wait. I am really excited about it."
