Georgia DB is high on Michigan and West Virginia

LEESBURG, Ga. — Ball State was the first school to offer Tavian Mayo, and that offer came in during the 2017 season. Things have really picked up early in 2018.

The 5-foot-11, 178 pound cornerback out of Lee County now has double-digit offers and two of the schools have pushed up his list to the top.

"Michigan and West Virginia are two schools I really like a lot right now," said Mayo. "Both have great program, both have a lot of great players and I have high interest in both of them."

Mayo has yet to visit either of his favorites, but he has his reasons why he's so high on them.

The Wolverines signed a star defensive lineman out of Lee County in 2017, so Mayo has gotten some feedback from him.

"Aubrey Solomon is my former teammate and he is there, so he has told me that it is exciting, it is different and that he loves it in Ann Arbor. I just want to get up there and see it myself.

"I know Michigan has this unique swagger about them and they know how to win. I could see myself being a part of that program. Their coaches have been recruiting us hard down here, so I like that too."

There are no connections to West Virginia, but there is a former Mountaineer that he watched closely.

"I always liked Karl Joseph when he was there," said Mayo. "He was a great player for them and I watched him a lot at defensive back.

"They always have speed, their defensive backs are very aggressive and I like their style of play. Coach [Doug] Belk told me that he liked my tape and he thinks I could make a different in their secondary."

Mayo plans to visit Michigan and West Virginia in the spring. He wants to see what the atmosphere is like and how he fits in at each school.

He grew up a fan of the Miami Hurricanes.
