Georgia DB high on Tigers

Under the direction of Tommy Bowden, Clemson has been making strides back
toward national prominence with fond memories of 1981's glory days.

One connection to the Tigers' national championship squad is now a prime
target on the recruiting trail.
Nicos
Chavis, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back from Atlanta's Lakeside
High School, says family ties and fond memories of his youth have him listing
Clemson atop his current list of favorites.
"I've always been a big Clemson fan," he said. "I was
born in South Carolina and I've got a lot of family from there. My unlce (Reggie
Pleasant) played on their national championship team. I've been around the
campus a lot and I really like everything about the school, especially the
coaches.
"They've told me they will probably be offering me a
scholarship here soon."
Chavis has been to camp at Clemson, Duke, Florida and
Georgia Tech this summer. He also plans to attend Georgia's senior day event in
July. He has one official offer thus far, from South Carolina State.
After Clemson, he lists Florida as a close second.
"I've been down there quite a bit," he said. "I went to
their camp last year, too. I like that campus and the atmosphere a lot. One
thing that stood out to me this summer, with the new coach (Ron Zook), was he
stayed out there and watched us the whole time. Most head coaches don't really
show up much at the camps, they just make an appearance at the end. So that kind
of stuck with me that he'd take the time to do that."
He said he's got local connections with the Georgia Tech
staff, keeping the Yellow Jackets in the mix. A former Tech coach is now at
Duke, so he's placed the Blue Devils among his favorites.
"He's kept up with me a whole lot," Chavis said. "With
Duke, I like the idea of getting a great education, getting to play a lot early,
and their coaches say that they're a program on the rise. I think they may be an
up and coming team."
"(Georgia) just kind of came into the picture," he
added. "I'll be checking their campus out for the first time."
As a junior, Chavis (4.5 forty) played free safety for
Lakeside, picking off five passes. This year, he'll make the move to corner.
"The scouts want to see me play there, see me play some
bump (coverage)," he said. "I'm pretty excited about that. I like being physical
and aggressive."
