Derae Allen has picked up three
new scholarship offers in recent weeks.
A 5-foot-11, 178-pound corner with 4.4 speed, Allen
now has offers from Kentucky, Navy and Georgia Southern in addition to
previous offers from Clemson and Stanford.
"I've heard from all of those schools, plus a few
others in the last two weeks," he said. "Georgia, Vandy, Wake
Forest, Kansas, Georgia Tech and a couple other schools have called.
"Clemson is showing the most interest. I talk to
them about every week. After that, probably Kentucky and Navy."
He hesitated to give a top five.
"It's way too early for me," said Allen, who has
made trips for the Miami-Florida and Clemson-Georgia games in recent weeks.
"I haven't really narrowed it down at all, but I do like Clemson a lot. I'm
pretty sure I'm going to visit them. As for the rest, I'm probably going to
keep it open until November."
Allen, one of the South's top-rated
cornerbacks, recorded 42
tackles and 10 pass break-ups as a junior. He's off to a strong start as a
senior, helping lead Lovejoy to a 3-1 record, but teams are showing him far
too much respect to suit his competitive side.
"I've only had four passes thrown my way all
season," he said. "I broke up two of them. The other two went out of bounds.
I'd like to get me some interceptions, but nobody is testing me. Plus, we
played two Wing-T teams, so they haven't thrown hardly at all. I had 11
tackles in one game."
