Virginia Tech held a satellite camp in Atlanta earlier this month in hopes of unearthing some hidden gems in the Peach State and on Saturday their efforts paid offer. Class of 2017 Roswell, Ga. athlete Malik Willis committed to the Hokies while on a visit, just 10 days after he worked out in front of the staff in Atlanta.

Willis, who plays quarterback for his high school, said the Virginia Tech loved his versatility and will likely give him a shot to play several different positions.

"They were adamant about me having the opportunity to contribute immediately," Willis said. "Right now they want me to be a Hokie with the flexibility of playing different positions."

During the spring Willis netted several offers, including Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane and others. Most of his offers came as a quarterback, but schools like Auburn were also looking closely at him to play wide receiver or defensive back.

During the Hokies satellite camp he worked out as a wide receiver, where he said he really felt a connection to the Hokie staff.

"Their response to my camp performance was great," Willis said. "It helped working with them on the field because it gave me an idea of how they like to teach and it gave them an idea of how I receive coaching."

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Willis is commitment No. 12 for Virginia Tech in the Class of 2017. Willis' commitment, along with Fitzgerald, Ga. tight end Lecitus Smith, gives the Hokies two commitments from the Peach State in the class.
