Georgia and South Carolina offers surprise 2020 RB Jordon Simmons

Friday May 19, 2017 will likely be a day Jordon Simmons remembers for a very long time. While speaking over the phone with Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, he was offered his first scholarship. Later in the day, South Carolina extended an offer to Simmons, who still has a few more days to go in his freshman year.

The 5-foot-11, 177 pound running back out of Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern was very surprised by both offers.

"I was not expecting any offers yet," said Simmons. "I was just trying to get in front of coaches, grab their attention at practice and I was not thinking about offers.

"I was very surprised when I got both offers. I just did not expect it to happen this soon."

Simmons does not know a lot about South Carolina yet. He has yet to visit Columbia (S.C.), but he has talked with running backs coach Bobby Bentley and a visit there will likely happen in the near future.

"Coach Bentley was at my practice Wednesday, he watched me for a while and then we talked on the phone and he offered me. He told me about their marketing and business programs, how they are strong and I like that. Those are things I am interested in majoring in. I will get up there and learn more about them."

He knows a lot about Georgia for multiple reasons. It is a home-state school, so he is around a lot of Georgia fans, but his older brother, Tyler Simmons plays wide receiver for the Bulldogs.

The younger Simmons now has an option to play between the hedges too.

"Georgia was one of my favorite schools growing up, so it is exciting to get this offer," said Simmons. "I talked to coach Kirby Smart on the phone and he was first to offer me. I was shocked. It was pretty exciting.

"I have been to a lot of Georgia games, I know about the school and the coaches would be great to play for. The crowd at Georgia game stands out to me and I just like the coaches. Coach [Dell] McGee (running backs) was at my spring game Friday, so that was cool too."

Tyler Simmons is getting ready to start his second year in Athens (Ga.) and he has given his little brother a little insight on what it is like on the next level. Him being at Georgia only helps the Dawgs.

"Tyler and I are very close, so him going to Georgia gives them some sort of edge. I know a lot about Georgia and he has told me a lot about it. He says it is hard work. The main thing he tells me is you have to work hard if you want to play."

Michigan and Tennessee are two other schools that have started to show interest in Simmons.
