Gators making push for Arkansas WR

One of the nation’s top two-sport stars says he’s receiving increased attention from one of his favorite schools this summer.
“Florida has been really coming on strong,” said Lepanto (Ark.) East Poinsett County star Marcus Monk. “They’ve been sending me something for football or basketball just about every day. I really like them, too. I like the style of play for both football and basketball, the atmosphere down there, and the tradition. They’re great in both sports.”

Monk (6-6, 205, 4.6) is a three-star wide receiver who caught 52 passes for 1,104 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior. He’s also a member of the Rivals150 Team in basketball, where he averaged 26 points, 14 rebounds and six steals last season.
He’s expressed an interest in playing both sports on the college level if he can balance the workload between those efforts and his academics.
Monk currently has a football offer from Arkansas. He’s got basketball offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss, among others. Tennessee and Auburn are also expressing interest for both sports.
His previous favorites were the Razorbacks and Sooners, but he said the Gators have pulled into the race alongside them now.
“I’m not sure when I’ll decide,” he said. “I’m not trying to rush things. I’ll probably wait until I see what a couple of schools, like Florida and Tennessee, are going to do.”
Whoever lands Monk will be getting an all-around student-athlete. He maintains a 3.97 GPA and has scored an 1130 on the SAT.
