Dublin (Ohio) Coffman three-star outside linebacker Steve Gardiner had a very successful senior season, prompting scholarship offers from all over the nation.
He already had offers from Northwestern, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Indiana and many others. But what he picked up last week was an interesting offer that he's going to have to consider seriously.
"(Ohio State assistant) Luke Fickell called me last week and let me know that they had a grayshirt offer thing for me," Gardiner said. "I was real excited to hear about it. It just adds to it, you know.
I was happy to get the offer, but I am not going to make my decision today or anything. It just adds a big name to the list that I already have."
Gardiner said his focus is now on four key schools.
"I have four main schools in no particular order – OSU, Northwestern, Pitt and West Virginia," he said "I now have the grayshirt thing from OhioState and offers from the rest of my top four as well."
Gardiner recently took an official visit to Ohio State back Nov. 30. He said he enjoyed himself while he was on the visit.
"It was a lot of fun," he said. "I hung out with the coaches and players and got a feel for those guys. I had a lot of fun. I have no timetable as of right now. It is tough because I am playing basketball as well and I'm just not sure about when I will decide right now."
Gardiner said he doesn't plan to make a big deal over his final decision.
"I have no set plans on other visits yet," he said. "I'm not sure where I want to go or when it will happen. I don't think I'll make a big deal of it and I will probably just figure it out whenever I decide."
