Gamecocks offer N.J. athlete

Fresh off a solid performance at the Premier Showcase sponsored by TEST Sports Club junior athlete Bill Belton is feeling pretty good about where he stands with various colleges.
Louisville, Maryland, Rutgers, Purdue, South Florida, Pitt and Middle Tennessee had already extended offers to Belton, and another school recently jumped into the mix.

"South Carolina just came in (and offered)," Belton explained. "I talked to coach G.A. Mangus and he said my offer would be in the mail.
"They actually came down to my school, saw my film and talked to my coach about me. They've been talking a lot about me. I've spoken with them a couple of times now. Coach G.A. is a real good guy. He's a real down to earth guy.
"I think South Carolina is a great school. Playing in the SEC you play against top teams every week. It's a great school."
Though Belton obviously sounds interested in the Gamecocks it might be a little while before he's able to visit Columbia. He wants to visit schools closer to home for spring games, camps, and other upcoming events -- schools such as Maryland, North Carolina, West Virginia and Rutgers.
"I'm wide open to everybody," Belton later said. "I'm just taking it all in and enjoying the process. I definitely want to take my official visits and see what school is best for me."
The 5-foot-9, 191-pound athlete from Atco (N.J.) Winslow Township could play on offense or defense in the college ranks.
He said South Carolina, Rutgers, Louisville and Maryland are recruiting him as an offensive prospect, while Purdue wants him as a defensive back. Pittsburgh has left open the possibility of playing on either side of the ball.
