Gamecocks Land Familiar Name

The latest commitment to South Carolina football is still going to take some official visits, but Gamecocks fans shouldn't worry too much. After all, his dad is the best player in the history of the program.
"My dad has been great about things," said Irmo, S.C. linebacker Tray Rogers who committed to the Gamecocks on Saturday. "He's one of the big reasons I chose South Carolina because he loved it there and I want him to see me play, but he's never pressured me. I made this commitment on my own."

The commitment to the Gamecocks is a soft one as Rogers plans on taking official visits to schools like Georgia, Georgia Tech and North Carolina before making his final decision. However, USC has a very good chance of signing the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder.
"I want to stay close to home and my brother plays at Furman so I don't want to make my dad travel too far," he said of his father, the legendary George Rogers of Heisman fame. "It's important he sees me play and I know he loves Gamecock football."
The younger Rogers was born in New Orleans while his father was setting records with the Saints in the NFL. He never remembered seeing his dad play in person.
"I've seen him on tape a bunch of times and he was pretty good," he said with a laugh. "I'm not worried about following him to the same school and being compared to him. I want to have my own street named after me."
As a junior, Rogers had more than 100 total tackles with 11 tackles for loss.
