Gamecocks in good shape with elite OL

Lou Holtz and South Carolina appear to be on the right track toward keeping
one of the South's premier linemen in state.

Union's
Eric
Young, a four-star offensive tackle, says the Gamecocks currently lead
five other schools for his services.
"South
Carolina is my favorite as of now," he said. "I'm also looking at Clemson,
Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, but I can pretty much guarantee
you it will come down to one of those first three."
Young (6-4, 260, 4.8), who has scholarship offers from each
of his favorites, talked about what impresses him the most about South Carolina.
"Mainly, it's the football atmosphere," he said. "Their
stadium and fan support is unbelievable. Of all the places I've been to, there's
nothing to compare to it.
"They've also got a
great coaching staff. Who wouldn't like coach Holtz? I love that guy. He's a
character. I feel good about their academics, too."
Young said he's set aside recruiting recently to
concentrate on getting ready for Union's season.
"I can't wait," he said. "I'm ready to go out and mix it up again, you know?
I've worked real hard this summer trying to get back in shape. Let me tell you,
once you get in shape, you better stay there. (Laughs)"
Young, already recognized as one of the most athletic
linemen in the nation, has increased his max lifts in the bench (315) and squat
(415) this summer.
