Size and speed: Capers is 6-foot-6, 275 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 5.0 seconds. He boasts a 350-pound bench press, power cleans 300 and squats 450.
Statistics: As a junior, he recorded 77 tackles and four sacks.
Honors: Was selected Class 4A all-state at defensive line.
Favorite Schools: South Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee, Maryland, Georgia.
Skinny: One of South Carolina’s top prospects has given an early commitment to his long-time favorite school.
“Dorian has decided to make a verbal commitment to South Carolina,” said Battery Creek coach Fred Hamilton. “That’s always been his team. He loves the Gamecocks, so when they made the official offer to him, he decided to make his commitment.
“I know it’s still early and things could change, but the way he likes them, I don’t see him wavering.”
Capers also had high interest or offers from Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland and Wake Forest, among others.
“He’s got unlimited potential,” Hamilton said. “He’s a kid who’s still young, physically. He’s 6-6, 275 right now and could very easily wind up 6-8, 320 after a couple of years in college.
“He’s got a good first step off the ball, long arms that help him with pass rushing and a real aggressive streak once they kick the ball off. He’s very aggressive.”
Hamilton compared him to another player who came through Battery Creek.
“We had a defensive lineman from here (Donnell Washington) who has started a couple of years at Clemson,” he said. “Dorian has the same kind of potential, maybe more. The sky’s the limit on him.”
