Gage adds offers

Baton Rouge (La.) Redemptorist athlete Russell Gage has been a two-way starter the last two years and earned all-district honors at receiver.
During the summer months, Gage made waves on the camp circuit with strong performances at Baylor, Texas A&M, and LSU camps.

His first stop was in Houston for Baylor's Camp at Cy Falls High School.
"It was fun," Gage said. "Actually I went out there and they didn't really have me on their radar when I first went out there but I put the work in and once they got a good look at me I guess they put me on their board. We've been talking back and forth. I don't know if they'll make a move or not."
Next was a stop in College Station for a Texas A&M camp.
"It was great," Gage said. "I got up there and I was a little late. When I got there the DB coach told me they filled up on their DBs but every year someone de-commits and if someone de-commits I'm going to be the first one they call."
At the two camps he worked strictly at cornerback, but at his third and final camp stop of the summer, LSU, he was able to work in a couple of other positions.
"It was everything I expected it to be," Gage said. "I came out there to see the best and that's what I saw. It was a great experience. It kind of boosted my skills a little because I expected talent but it's kind of hard to prepare for that high class of talent. I went out there and since the camp was longer I was able to work at different positions. I got to work at corner, safety, and receiver. It was great."
At 6-foot, 175-pounds, he has spent time at cornerback, safety, and receiver for Redemptorist, but he admits he does have a favorite out of the three spots.
"Cornerback is a challenge and I enjoy challenges," Gage said. "Cornerback may be the hardest position on the football field. I've been playing receiver all my life and I'm not saying it comes easy but it comes natural so I wanted to try something that takes me out of my comfort zone. I like that."
College coaches have liked what they have seen. Tulane offered first, Southern Miss offered shortly after the LSU camp, and Monday morning Louisiana Tech extended a scholarship offer. All have offered at defensive back and interest continues to come from LSU and Baylor.
Gage has not made any visit plans but he mentioned visit possibilities to LSU, Louisiana Tech, and Tulane since they are closer to home. As for a decision and favorites, Gage is holding off for now.
"It's probably too early to say right now," Gage said. "With the season coming I have to stay focused. We have high expectations for the upcoming football season. Right now it's all even I guess."
