Gafford also had scholarship offers from Indiana, Marshall, Kent State, Cincinnati, and Louisiana Tech.
"I had some good options so that made it tough," Gafford said. "But I felt like Miami had the best academics and overall the most things I was looking for.
"The coaches seem like great people. I like the school. It seemed like the kind of place I was looking for."
The 6-foot-0 and 200-pound Gafford has led the Wolves to a 7-3 record and a birth in the state playoffs playing safety and quarterback. He will play safety in college.
Gafford has 82 tackles and one interception on defense. On the other side of the ball he has 879 yards passing with 10 touchdowns, and 600 yards rushing.
Gafford, who holds a number of career records at Kilbourne, is the No. 44 prospect in the state of Ohio in the Rivals.com player rankings.
