Ga. star has strong ties to Canes

Marietta, Ga., cornerback Chris Hobbs is probably a name that you have not heard mentioned during the recruiting process so far. Perhaps you should have though as he picked up several impressive offers and is receiving interest from other big name programs.
“I have offers from Stanford, Ball State, Vanderbilt and Harvard,” Hobbs said. “Harvard can’t actually offer scholarships but they can guarantee you admission and they have a program called the “early action program” that helps out athletes financially.”

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound Hobbs is a speedster who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds. He is the anchor for one of the top defensive backfields in the Peach State.
“I would say that my favorites right now are Georgia, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Ball State, Georgia Tech, Duke, Louisville and Miami,” Hobbs said. “I feel like Louisville, Georgia and Georgia Tech could all be close to offering. I have been getting a lot of stuff from Georgia, they have given me a lot of personal attention.”
Hobbs father Chris Hobbs Sr. played for the Miami Hurricanes in the early 80’s. He played with Jim Kelly, Art Kehoe and none other than Georgia head coach Mark Richt. His mother is also a 1982 graduate of Miami.
“My dad and coach Richt are still good friends,” Hobbs said. “Our families have known each other since I can remember. I have always watched Georgia a lot as a kid because they were the home school, but ever since coach Richt has been there I have liked them even more.”
Hobbs attended camps at Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt this summer. As evidenced by the interest from the likes of Stanford, Vanderbilt and Harvard Hobbs is an excellent academic student.
“Location is not something that matters a lot to me, I will go wherever as long as it’s the right place for me,” Hobbs said. “I want to play for a coach who is going to take care of me. I know football isn’t going to last forever so getting a good education is important to me.”
