Williams has seen schools' recruiting interest pick up this summer.
"I'm starting to hear from a few new teams," he said.
"Kansas is a new one, and Alabama as well. I'm hearing a lot from North
Carolina and Florida, too. They've been sending me a lot more stuff."
Williams (5-8, 170, 4.4, 32 vertical) was a first-team
all-region and all-conference selection as a junior at Lovejoy High School after
eclipsing the 600-yard mark in both rushing and receiving and scoring 13
touchdowns. He's hoping to grab the attention of a college program seeking an
all-purpose back to play in a wide-open system.
"We have a spread offense at Lovejoy," he said. "So I've
been mainly looking at schools that play that way."
Clemson is high on his list for that reason.
"They're my top school right now," he said. "I love the
way they play, and it just seems like a neat place to play with the big stadium
and the rock coming down the hill, all that. I love their atmosphere and
tradition."
He rounds out his top five with Georgia, Ole Miss, North
Carolina, South Carolina.
"All of them are not too far from here," he said. "I'm
not sure if I want to travel that far out of state. Georgia would be nice for
that. Plus, I like their program and the way coach (Mark) Richt is running
things. I like the way he coaches and stays up with his players."
Williams said Ole Miss and North Carolina have offensive
systems he likes, and that South Carolina is on his list primarily because of
Lou Holtz. "I've always followed him since he was at Notre Dame. I really admire
him and the way he coaches."
Williams is still awaiting his first scholarship offer. He has attended camps at Ole Miss and Florida, and will be at Auburn next weekend.
His offseason workout program has seen him add five pounds of muscle and push
his max bench and squat to 270 and 490 pounds, respectively.
