Future Five: Young gunslingers

The recruiting process is starting earlier than ever and prospects are sometimes
identified even before they reach high school. Much like our

18 for 18
series, we will spotlight five players per week that are early in their football
careers and have the potential to be highly touted college football prospects by
the time they graduate high school.
Who's Interested: Ekiyor's most recent offers are from Georgia and
N.C. State
and Michigan, Tennessee and many others have already pulled the trigger.
What's Interesting: Ekiyor's level of play is much higher than
that of a normal sophomore offensive lineman. With his 6-foot-4, 315-pound
frame, Ekiyor overpowers defensive lineman and, because of him high nimble
footwork, is a very good pass blocker. Cathedral has had players end up at
schools all over the Midwest but Ekiyor has a chance to end up as the
highest-rated prospect they have ever had.
ATH
Devyn Ford (2019)
Stafford (Va.) North Stafford
Who's Interested: Just coming onto the scene, Ford has already drawn interest
from Virginia, Virginia Tech and Penn State.
What's Interesting: Around this time last season a freshman
running back in northern Virginia was putting up huge numbers and started picking up
offers left and right. Now 2018 standout Ricky Slade has about 20
scholarship offers. The same thing could happen to Ford. In three games, he has
close to 10 touchdowns and more than 500 total yards. Ford will blow up. It's
just a matter of time.
LB
Rosendo Louis (2018)
Deerfield Beach, Fla.
Who's Interested: Temple has already offered Louis but
Alabama, Florida State
and Ohio State like what they've seen so far.
What's Interesting: Louis is a physical presence on the
interior of the defense for a loaded Deerfield Beach squad. He's already
6-foot-2, 225 pounds, so he might end up growing into a defensive end when all is
said and done, but what Louis has done on the field so far is very impressive.
With some major college programs already interested, watching his recruitment
explode should be exciting.
QB
Jalen Mayden (2018)
Sachse, Texas
Who's Interested: Oregon State and Syracuse are Mayden's biggest offers right
now but Houston and Bryant have also offered. Dozens of other schools have shown
interest too.
What's Interesting: Mayden is the brother of Rivals250
Oregon commit Jared Mayden. The elder Mayden has been taking official
visits to Georgia and Michigan but he is headed back up to
Eugene for an official visit on Oct. 9. How ever his recruitment ends will likely
impact Jalen's recruitment to a certain degree. He already has a few offers
under his belt, but many more are on the way
