Furr lineman wants to stay close to home

Furr offensive lineman Brian Ruiz wants to stay close to home for several reasons.
"I live with my grandmother and I want to be pretty close to still look after her," he said. "I'd most likely like to play downtown or down the road a little bit."

The 6-3, 305-pound offensive and defensive lineman is the beacon of Furr's program this season. He is academically eligible and has already attended combines and the University of Houston's spring game. He will be attending Baylor, Texas and Texas A&M's camps this summer as well.
"Brian has a great work ethic and a great attitude," Furr coach Cornell Gray said. "He's a very intelligent offensive lineman and that is where he will project as a college player."
Ruiz's current top five include Houston, Rice, Texas, Texas A&M and Sam Houston.
"I really like the local schools and education is very important to me," he said. "I'd like to get a criminal justice degree, so that's why I like Sam Houston. I also really like Art Briles."
Ruiz was a first-team, all-district selection as an offensive and defensive lineman.
Furr will also be led by junior's-to-be Ervin Johnson and Jermaine Paul. Johnson (6-2, 180-pound) wide receiver and defensive back was an all-district selection as a freshman.
"I like receiver better and will be working hard this summer," Johnson said.
Paul (5-6, 145-pounds) is a jittery running back who has high expectations for his junior season.
"I want to go for 1,500 yards and be an all-district selection," Paul said. "I'm a speed back like Darrell Sproles at Kansas State. I'm not going to run anybody over, but it's hard to catch me."
