Fulwider picks North Carolina

It came down to North Carolina and Vanderbilt, and less than a week after he took his official visit to Chapel Hill, Nick Fulwider has committed to the Tar Heels.

"I have gone back and forth between the two schools because Vanderbilt was recruiting me so hard and their head coach Derek Mason was talking to me every day, but I just had to go with my gut, and my gut was telling me North Carolina is the school for me," said Fulwider.

"It was very tough, but I feel very good about my decision."

The 6-foot-6, 250 pound defensive end out of Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek has visited Nashville half a dozen times and he is coming off his second visit to Chapel Hill. It was during his official visit that he started getting the feeling he could be ready to commit.

"When I heading back home, I really thought I was ready to commit. After spending time with the coaches and the players, it kind of hit me that North Carolina was the place.

"They have a diverse educational program that offers a lot and I just felt at home there. I talked it over with my mom, then I gave the North Carolina coaches a call to tell them."

Fulwider said each coach he spoke with, including head coach Larry Fedora was very excited about the news. He actually gave it to them on Halloween.

The three star could not be more excited about his future. He has family in North Carolina, he feels at home in Chapel Hill and he thinks he will fit right in.

"I just think I can be successful there," said Fulwider. "They all welcomed me with open arms and the coaches at North Carolina are not just coaches, they are great people.

"I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and it feels great to be committed. I am happy about my commitment and I feel I am done with all of the recruiting now.

"I do not plan to visit any other schools. I am done with recruiting as a whole. It is only UNC on my mind."
