Fullback could be states best in 2005

While Conway Springs (Kan.) High School will be looking for a new coach in 2004 to replace Mark Bliss, who is headed to Florida, the hunt for the main cog of the offense will be easy to find. According to Bliss, the new coach will have to look no further than running back Darrin Seiwert.
“The new coach won’t have to look far to figure out the offensive game plan,” Bliss said. “Find a way to get the ball in Darrin’s hands. Following that plan has made me look like I know what I’m doing the past couple years.”

The single-wing offense run by Conway Springs has allowed the 6-foot-2, 220-pound all-state selection rack up 4,377 yards (2,507 as a junior) on the ground the past two seasons, while scoring 66 touchdowns. His career yardage total ranks him 20th all-time in the Sunflower State’s history books. He also is ninth in touchdowns in state history.
The Seiwert-led Cardinal football team has won three consecutive state championships and a 41-game winning streak.
As for early interest from college coaches, Bliss said Seiwert is starting to attract the attention of college scouts.
“He is getting information already from a lot of schools,” the coach said. “I’m sure it will just continue to grow as his name gets out there in front of more and more schools.”
Right now, the list of schools already in contact with Seiwert includes Kansas State, Missouri, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Colorado State.
Seiwert, a young man of few words, has done nothing to hurt himself as a prospect off the field.
“Darrin’s favorite words are ‘yup’ and ‘nope’,” Bliss said with a laugh. “If you catch him in a talking mood, you might get a ‘yes sir’ or a ‘no sir’, but that won’t happen very often. He’s just a quiet kid. He’s a good student and is one of those kids who does what he is supposed to do.”
