Fuga is MWC bound

Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison two way lineman Romney Fuga had narrowed his choices to BYU and Utah over a month ago. The lineman tripped to BYU this past weekend and decided to end the recruiting process.
"I'm a Cougar," Fuga said. "I actually committed to them about two weeks ago but I wanted to wait until I took my visit before I really told anyone. My family and I talked a lot about this and we all felt BYU was the best place for me.

"Both schools are great in a lot of different ways but I just felt more comfortable at BYU because of my faith. BYU is the church school and I'm LDS and I just really felt more connected with the school, players and coaches because of that. I was supposed to visit Utah next weekend but I'm done with my visits and my commitment is solid."
Fuga, 6-2, 285 pounds had a dominant year on both sides of the line but said he was recruited to play defense for the Cougs.
"They like me for defensive tackle," Fuga said. "That's kind of what I preferred as well. We talked about that on the visit and got everything squared away. I had a great time this past weekend and got to see a lot of the school and watch a volleyball and basketball game while I was there.
"Their volleyball team is ranked No. 1 in the nation and they're really good. The basketball team beat Utah in what was a pretty big game and that was a good time too. I also went snow mobiling and had a lot fun there. It's just a great fit for me."
As good as he won in football, Fuga may be an even better wrestler. He finished 4th in the state a year ago and is currently rated No. 2 in the state at the heavyweight class (215-275 LBs) behind another football standout, Clovis West's Chris Lewis.
"I'm 13-0 with 13 pins right now," Fuga said. "I actually beat Lewis last year but he finished higher than me at the state meet so that's probably why he's ranked higher than me. The same guy who beat me, beat him in the finals. He's really good but I have some size on him. I actually need to lose about 10 pounds before my next match to make weight. It's not a problem for me though, I've been doing that forever."
