Romney Fuga, the two-way lineman from Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison, knows how to compete at an elite level. The 6-foot-2, 260 pound senior finished fourth in the state in wrestling at the heavyweight level and his Chargers football team is 6-1 and currently ranked No. 3 in California by CalHiSports.com and No. 48 nationally by StudentSportsFootball.com.
Last year, Fuga recorded a 60-8 wrestling record on his way to taking 4th in the state at the heavyweight level. On the football field as a junior he was a 1st team all-state underclass pick for one of the top programs in the state, Huntington Beach Edison.
On the recruiting front, Fuga has offers from BYU, San Diego State and Colorado State. He plays both defensive tackle and offensive tackle and is being recruited on both sides of the line right now.
"Right now, my plan is to play one year of college football and then go on my (Mormon) mission," Fuga said.
Though missionaries don't have a choice (or say) in where they go, it'd make sense for Fuga to go to French speaking countries. "I've taken four years of French in high school," he explains.
Fuga admits he likes BYU because of the church connection but adds, "I want to take a couple of trips before I commit and I'll do that after football is over with."
