TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Daniel Wright’s commitment to Florida State wasn’t some shocker. It didn’t come out of the blue or catch anyone off guard. Instead, it was a slow build. Wright had listed Florida State as his leader for some time. And after a final look around during a visit to FSU for the program’s camp, the four-star defensive back made things official.

“I had a great tour when I first got here,” Wright said. “I’m just loving it. It’s all still really good, so I decided to just go ahead and make it official.”

The South Florida-based Wright had been kicking the idea around for days before his arrival in Tallahassee. The decision wasn’t made on the spot and there was no haste attached to it. Instead, his pledge to the Seminoles was a premeditated as commitments come.

“After my final research, I knew.” Wright said. “I guess it was, like, a week ago that I was really coming into it and really knew it was going to happen.”

Despite the verbal commitment, Wright intends to leave the door open to other programs. When asked, he names Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Florida as schools he intends to check out in the future.

“I’m locked in here at FSU, but I’m gonna keep my options open a little and take some other visits still,” Wright said.

A four-star prospect, Wright is ranked as the 16 athlete and the No. 179 overall prospect in the class of 2017. He committed to Florida State over a long list of other offers.
