Florida State lost a commitment on Wednesday and it doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch to assume the uncertainty surrounding head coach Jimbo Fisher may have played a role. Rivals100 safety Houston Griffith backed off his commitment to the Seminoles at around 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday and did so with a simple tweet.

The No. 47 player in the class of 2018, Griffith has been committed to FSU since September. He lists offers from a number of other major programs, including Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas and Notre Dame. Griffith is originally from the Chicago area, but played his high school career at Florida’s IMG Academy.

Fisher has been the subject of rumors linking him to the open Texas A&M job and has done little to quell that talk in recent days. So while nothing is official, there seems to be a growing sense of uncertainty around FSU recruits, a few of which have publicly wondered why they haven’t heard anything from the Seminoles’ staff.

Earlier Wednesday, another Florida State commit, linebacker Amari Gainer, told the Tallahassee Democrat that the rumors were “very unsettling.”

"If your head coach can leave before you get there and you have to go in blind and not knowing anything, It’s pretty unsettling not knowing what’s going on," Gainer told the newspaper. “I know all of the rest of the recruits think the same thing.”
