FSU lands R100 TE Upshur

Florida State lost a major playmaker when five-star tight end Isaac Nauta decommitted, but the Seminoles reeled in another big tight end to replace him. Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Institute Charter School Rivals100 tight end Naseir Upshur announced his commitment to Florida State on Tuesday.

"I picked the Seminoles because I have a great relationship with the coaching staff," said the 6-foot-2, 238-pound Upshur. "I believe (assistant) coach Tim Brewster can get me to my potential. I sat down in the classroom with him and learned some things I had never learned before. The school is very attractive too. The academic part is great and I feel like I can grow as a person there."
Upshur started leaning towards Florida State after he took a visit to Tallahassee.
"I got to see the coaches," he said. "I saw the coaches at other schools and they didn't compare to Tim Brewster."
Most people believed that Upshur was a lock when Nauta decommitted but it doesn't sound like what Nauta was doing influenced Upshur's process.
"It never was a factor at all," Upshur said. "I'm going to fight for a spot wherever I go. I was still high on Florida State even when he was committed."
Even though he is now committed, Upshur still plans on taking some official visits.
"I do expect to take some official visits to other schools but I'm not sure of which ones or when," he said. "I'm definitely going to get out to Arizona State for an official visit and probably USC."
Upshur is an Under Armour All-American and participated in the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour.
