FSU lands 5-star DE Josh Sweat

On Wednesday morning, Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith five-star defensive end Josh Sweat surprised many by deciding to leave his home state to play college football at Florida State. From the beginning it was very evident that it would be hard for any team to persuade him to leave the state of Virginia to play college football but the defending national champions got the job done.

Since before his unofficial visit to Tallahassee over the summer, Sweat has built very strong relationships with Seminole defensive ends coach Sal Sunseri, defensive coordinator Charles Kelly and head coach Jimbo Fisher. Sweat trusts that they will be able to put him in the best position possible to quickly make an impact on the field and be set up well to make it to the NFL.
The first major hurdle for Sweat, an early enrollee, will be to recover from a major knee injury he sustained early in the season. He sustained what was called a dislocated knee after a teammate fell awkwardly on him. About two months ago a very respected doctor in New York performed successful knee surgery on Sweat. He has taken the recovery process very seriously and is already walking by himself with a small knee brace. Sweat is hoping to be able to fully participate in practice in July or August.
At full strength, Sweat is a man among boys on the field. He has exceptional speed and athleticism for a player his size and has the versatility to play with his hand in the ground or drop into coverage. Look for Sweat to be used in a number of different ways.
Sweat's other finalists were Virginia Tech, Georgia and Ohio State.
