FSU, Ducks to get visit from top 100 WR

Ranked as one of the nation’s top five receivers, Derrick Jones of Long Beach Poly is a wanted man. So when you have all of the nation’s best teams chasing after you and you have more offers than you can handle, what do you do?
“Be honest,” Jones, who is 6-foot and 170 pounds, said. “That’s the biggest thing you have to do and what my coaches have told me. They want me to be honest with the teams recruiting me.”

And he honestly has six or seven schools in mind.
With an official visit to Arizona State already in the books from October, Jones is set up to visit Oregon on January 9. He’s following that up with a visit to Florida State on January 16.
“After that, I’m hoping to visit Miami, but I don’t have anything set up in stone yet,” Jones said. “My fifth visit is going to be either to USC or Oklahoma. My top teams are Oregon, USC, Florida State, Miami and Oklahoma.”
Notice that Arizona State isn’t in that top group? Jones said at this point that he just likes the others teams better and didn’t want to elaborate much more than that.
Jones does have a few things in mind when it comes to the ideal school. Things like playing time, depth charts and how he fits in with the team are keys, but he does have another thing in mind.
“I want to major in business or criminal justice, and academics are always the most important thing to me,” he said. “I want to play as a freshman, play in a passing offense and things like that, but I have to have a school with my major.”
Jones has 13 touchdown receptions this season as Poly beings its playoff run this upcoming Friday night.
“We have St. John Bosco,” Jones said. “It’s going to be a real tough challenge.”
