FSU camp: top defensive performers

Recruiting wrap: Jones is wide open and is considering many schools. Florida State, Florida, Auburn and Ohio State are some of the schools that have caught his eye.
Performance: Jones has a special combination of size and speed for a defensive back. He has the footwork and fluid hips to play cornerback but also has the range to play safety. In one-on-ones, Jones used his length to his advantage and it helped him break up a lot of passes and slow down some of the smaller, quicker wide receivers at the line of scrimmage.

DB
Stanford Samuels (2017)
Pembroke Pines (Fla.) Flanagan
Recruiting wrap: Florida State, Alabama, LSU and Georgia are some of the major contenders for Samuels.
Performance: Samuels is a bigger cornerback (6-1, 161) that uses his length to his advantage but isn't overly physical. His speed and instincts forced quarterbacks into bad throws. Samuels showed he has the quickness and athleticism to stick with nearly any receiver that comes his way.

DB
Cyrus Fagan (2017)
Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland
Recruiting wrap: Fagan is focusing on Florida State, Alabama, Clemson and Miami.
Performance: Fagan is a pure safety that had success in one-on-ones when playing from depth. It's difficult for safeties to excel in this environment, but there is no doubt he's one of the top players at his position in the 2017 class. His ability to break on throws in front of him really made life difficult on quarterbacks. On deep throws, Fagan showed that he has the ability to high point the ball and compete with bigger wide receivers.

LB
Terrell Lucas
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: Lucas has a long offer sheet that includes schools like Michigan, Minnesota and many others, and Florida State is close to offering.
Performance: Lucas was a bit of a surprise during the camp Thursday. He's about 6-foot-3 and weighs more than 220 pounds, but he moves very well for player that size. Lucas did drills as a linebacker but took one-on-one reps as a linebacker and defensive end. He had a lot of success at both positions and seemed like he could be on the verge of getting an offer from Florida State.

DL
Cory Durden (2017)
Newberry, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: Durden has offers from Florida, Miami, N.C. State and Oklahoma but he has been working hard to get the Florida State offer.
Performance: Durden participated in every session of the camp and seemed like he learned a lot. He has great size (6-4, 287) and moves very well. Durden seemed to be very coachable and his strength overwhelmed some of the interior offensive linemen. He had mixed results during a one-on-one session, but he has a lot of potential.

LB
Jaden Hunter (2017)
Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake
Recruiting wrap: Hunter is considering Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Clemson, UCLA and Tennessee. Florida State seems to be in the middle of the pack.
Performance: The camp environment is always difficult for linebackers and during one-on-ones they don't usually have a lot of success. But Hunter is extremely gifted physically and knows how to be rough with running backs and tight ends to throw off their routes. He moved very well in space and he has a big frame to fill out. If he can keep his speed while adding more muscle as he develops, Hunter will be a major force.

DB
Brian Edwards (2017)
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: It seems like Miami and Florida are in good position for Edwards.
Performance: Edwards was another defensive back that had a lot of success Thursday. He knows how to use his length to his advantage and is very quick for his size (6-2, 183). Edwards' instincts will progress as he gets more experience but has the raw talent to be very successful at the college level. There's also plenty of room for him to fill out his frame, which will help them get better against bigger wide receivers.
