Frye-Smith commits to FAU

Hialeah (Fla.) American defensive back D.J. Frye-Smith took his first official visit this weekend, heading to nearby Florida Atlantic University. He came away very impressed with the Owls.
"I committed while I was on my visit there this weekend," Frye-Smith said. "They offered me while I was on the visit. They extended the offer and I committed."

Florida Atlantic was Frye-Smith's first offer. The offer was hand delivered by his future head coach.
"Coach (Howard) Schnellenberger was the coach that offered me," Frye-Smith said. "Meeting him was great, it was wonderful. He is a Legend. When you talk about Coach Schnellenberger, you are talking about one of the best coaches in college - period. He is one of the best to ever do it.
"That helped me make my decision," Frye-Smith added. "Knowing that he will be my coach. He has shown that anything is possible with what he has done at other programs and what he is doing here now."
For the 5-foot-11, 185-pound cornerback, the decision was an easy one to make.
"To tell you the truth I really like the school and the players," Frye-Smith said. "They are very young. FAU is on the rise. They are going to be real good."
The two-star defensive back was one of many commitments for Florida Atlantic on the weekend, according to Frye-Smith.
"FAU had a big day for their recruiting class," Frye-Smith said. "I think we have 17 commitments now. We got a bunch this weekend."
As a senior, Frye-Smith had eight interceptions. He also returned a kick for a touchdown.
Academically, he has a 2.8 GPA and earned a 1200 on the SAT.
