Friday to visit UNC, VTech

Hampton (Va.) Phoebus defensive end Stephen Friday has seen his offer total increase to seven with new offers coming in from Maryland, North Carolina State, and UCLA. Friday, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound prospect earned all-state honors as a junior after posting 32 tackles for a loss and 17 sacks last season.
“I’m starting to get a lot of interest from a number of new schools,” explained Friday. “Some want me to play defensive end and some want me to play linebacker. I really don’t have a preference either way right now.”

Friday does plan to make one visit the first weekend of September and may join teammate Elan Lewis on a second the following weekend. Friday is unsure if either visit will be official in nature.
“I’ll be at North Carolina the first weekend in September to check them out,” said Friday. “We have a bye week the following weekend and I’d like to take a visit somewhere. I know Elan is going up to Virginia Tech that weekend and I might tag along.”
Lewis insists he has no leaders at this point and really isn’t thinking about making a decision until sometime after the season, although an early commitment is not out of the realm of possibility.
“I’d say there is a small chance I could commit if I see the right environment and feel comfortable enough during the season,” admitted Friday. More than likely though, I’ll wait until after the season is over to make the rest of my visits and decide then.”
What is Friday looking for in a school?
“I would like to be close to home if possible,” explained Friday. “Academics are important as well as the setting of the town in which the school is located. I’d like to be away from big city distractions.”
Friday and his Phoebus teammates will open the season September 2nd against Wilson High School.
