Hampton (Va.) Phoebus defensive end Stephen Friday committed to the school most would have suspected on Tuesday. So where is he headed?
"I committed to Virginia Tech today," said the 6-foot-5, 215-pounder. "I just liked the school, plain and simple. The coaches are great, I have friends on the team, but most importantly it's the best fit for me."
Friday, who is ranked as the No. 21 player in Virginia, had offers from Virginia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, NC State and others.

"I visited a couple weekends ago and I wanted to think about it for awhile," he said. "After some thinking, it was pretty clear to me. My commitment had nothing to do with Elan's (teammate Elan Lewis, who committed two weeks ago), it was my decision alone. It was just an easy choice for me."
Friday has led his team to a 3-0 record with 30-plus tackles, a sack and two forced fumbles so far this season. As a junior he had 100 tackles with 32 for a loss.
