Fremont sleeper off to good start

The Coliseum League is one of the Los Angeles City Sections tougher leagues. The two glamour schools are Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey and Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw so if you play at another school sometimes getting ink can be tough. One school from that is beginning to see some recruiting love is Los Angeles (Calif.) Fremont home for one of the better corner prospects in the City Section.
The cornerback to keep your eyes on this season is Malik James (6-0, 170, 4.48).

James racked up 60 tackles, five pass deflections and four picks from his cornerback position in 2004.
On the offensive side of the ball, James lined up at both wide receiver and running back where he picked up 313 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
James was a second-team all-league corner as a junior.
James has excellent bloodlines. His brother Mil'Von James signed with UCLA out of high school and has since transferred to UNLV where he is doing a great job on the scout team and could start for the Rebels next season when eligible.
"Malik is probably a better all-around athlete than Mil'Von," Fremont coach John Washington said. "He just might have more upside."
"Mil'Von was a safety for us and Malik is already a corner," Washington said. "He is open to playing any defensive back position on the next level."
"Malik is an outstanding cover corner, however," Washington said. "He is very fast and has great instincts."
"Malik has improved greatly as a tackler," Washington said. "He has grown tremendously as a football player all-around."
So far Fremont is 1-1 on the season beating Garfield 19-0 in the opener and then dropping their second game to Lynwood 21-12.
His first games stats are follows, James has rushed for 35 yards and scored one touchdown. As a receiver, James has caught six passes for 54 yards.
From his cornerback position, James has racked up 10 tackles.
On special teams, James returned one punt for 52 yards and one kickoff for 27 yards.
UNLV, Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State and Washington State are showing James a lot of interest.
