Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic defensive end Kevin Frahm didn't know what to say. After being selected by Rivals.com to play in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end got so excited that he was speechless.
"My heart was pounding too fast," Frahm, the No. 2 player in Oregon, said. "I was ecstatic. I couldn't believe it. I was really excited about it, and it's a big honor, but I didn't know what to say. I was completely surprised."
Frahm plans to make the most of his opportunity to showcase his skills to a national television audience. The all-star game will be televised live on ESPNU.
"I hope people will see my hard work," Frahm said. "They're going to see my desire to be the best. This is a big chance to show I'm one of the nation's best players. I'm going to approach it really serious. I'm gearing myself up as if I have a chip on my shoulder. I'm going to use that nobody thinks we play good football in Oregon as a big motivator.
"I've also never been to Florida, so this is another big opportunity for me. I'm going to bring my mother, so this will be also something really special for her, too."
Frahm is an Oregon State commitment. He said he let the Beaver coaches know about him playing in the game and they were really excited for him.
"They told me to go down to Florida and make them proud," Frahm said.
Frahm committed to the Beavers back in June. He said he hasn't looked back, especially after he watched Oregon State beat USC.
"That was crazy," Frahm said. "I was so proud of my boys. The D-line represented big-time. That just proved to me, and I hope proved to everybody else, just how good Coach Joe (Seumalo) is and all the coaches are down there on defense. The offense came up big in that game, too. It was an incredible experience, and it proved that's why I need to be there at OSU.
