Four-star Hartwell (Ga.) linebacker Jae Thaxton is in the midst of another monster season at Hart County, but he also has a good grip on his priorities at this time of the season.
“Jae is taking some time away from talking on the phone and studying real hard on some essays he’s working on,” said the player’s father, Warren. “He’s really trying hard to make the honor roll, so we’re taking some of his calls for right now.”
That included another call on this night from one of the schools Thaxton has picked for an official visit.
“I was on the phone with LSU earlier tonight, coach Lance Thompson,” Thaxton said. “We’ve set up a date for our official visit there, Jan. 30.”
Thaxton also has dates set with Georgia (Dec. 19), Clemson (Jan. 9) and Notre Dame (Jan. 23).
“We’re looking at Miami and Florida State, possibly, for the other visit,” his father added.
Any favorites in the mix?
“Right now, I think he’s pretty open-minded about all those schools,” Thaxton said. “He’s really just focused on his academics and helping his team move on in the playoffs. Those are the big things right now, then he’ll have plenty of time to pick his college.”
Thaxton has put up incredible numbers during his career at Hart County. He came into his senior season with a whopping 352 tackles, 34 tackles for loss, 13 sacks and three interceptions as a sophomore and junior.
Earlier this year, he broke the school records for total tackles (now with more than 500) and tackles in a single game (29). He’s recorded 170 tackles in leading Hart County into the playoffs with a 7-3 record.
He is rated the No. 8 player in the Peach State and the No. 9 inside linebacker in the nation by Rivals.com.
