Four-star WR Harris drops his top five

Cleveland Heights four-star wide receiver Jaylen Harris is the second-highest ranked uncommitted prospect in Ohio’s 2017 class. On Thursday the 6-foot-5, 205-pound prospect dropped his list of the final five schools he will be considering, and a final decision may not be far off.

THE LATEST

The five schools still alive for Harris are Alabama, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee. Harris is planning his next visit to Michigan State for this upcoming weekend. He visited each of the other four during the month of July, attending Ohio State’s Friday Night Lights Camp on July 22, stopping by both Alabama and Tennessee during camp days, though he did not partake in those camps, and most recently visiting Penn State on July 25, which was his first time on the Nittany Lion’s campus. There is no set timetable for a final decision, and Harris said it could come at any time.

IN HIS WORDS

“One day I want to get it out of the way before the season and just focus on the season. I feel if I get it out of the way it will take a lot of stress off. But then, I want to take a couple of officials too, so I am not really sure.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Harris had planned to make this cut back in July, but stretched it into August while he deliberated on his final choices. There were no big surprises in the final five. He listed four of those schools as the ones he had the best relationship with when I spoke with him in late June. Only Penn State was not mentioned then, but he made a visit to State College in the interim so their inclusion is also not a surprise. If there are any surprise omissions, Pittsburgh and West Virginia would be two.
