Four-star receiver/safety Bryan Addison commits to UCLA

Bryan Addison admitted this offseason that once he landed his offer from UCLA he almost cried. The four-star from Gardena (Calif.) Serra also said he considered committing on the spot.

Addison waited through his senior season but his decision did not change, as the elite two-way standout at receiver and safety committed to the Bruins on Sunday shortly after his official visit ended.

Nebraska, Arizona State, Michigan and Arizona were Addison’s other finalists. Meeting with new coach Chip Kelly was another driving factor in Addison's final choice.

“Really, it was just me meeting the head coach, seeing what the plan was for me and he has a great plan set up for football and after football,” Addison said. “Student first, and UCLA has a great academic program.

“I was fired up to meet (Kelly). He’s a great man overall, and he has a plan not only to be great at football but to be great in life. He had a lot of choices but he chose UCLA for a reason.”

A few weeks ago, Addison planned to pick his school after a visit to Washington, another school considered in his recruitment, but after UCLA fired Jim Mora the four-star decided to postpone things.

Then the Bruins hired coach Chip Kelly and Addison started to get to know the new coaching staff, finally getting a chance to sit and talk with them this weekend. The visit was more than enough to convince the Serra two-way standout that UCLA was still the perfect fit for him.

The Bruins like him at receiver first and safety as a secondary option.

“I see myself playing early with only a couple receivers coming back - Theo Howard and maybe Jordan Lasley,” Addison said.“They said I can get work on the defensive side of the ball, but if I’m going to play receiver in the league then that’s what it is.”

In his senior season, Addison finished with 46 receptions for 582 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns. At safety, he totaled 44 tackles and five interceptions.
