DeSoto (Texas) four-star athlete Tre Wisner made a surprise commitment to Texas on Saturday night, just hours after the conclusion of the Longhorns' Spring Game.

Wisner, whose recruitment had been trending towards Oklahoma and Texas A&M, was on campus in Austin on Saturday to take in the Orange-White Game along with a group of other recruits, and it's clear that his visit was solid enough to lock down his recruitment.

Newly-hired running backs coach Tashard Choice lands his first commit in Austin as he proved to be the darkhorse position coach in Wisner's recruitment with his commitment. In a recruiting class where Texas will look to take two running backs, Wisner serves as a solid first land.

Originally from Waco (Texas) Connally in Central Texas, Wisner rushed for 909 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2021 along with hauling in 18 receptions for 241 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Wisner accounted for 74 tackles, one forced fumble and one interception.

Wisner enrolled at DeSoto at the beginning of the spring and will play his senior season at the DFW powerhouse alongside four-star wide receiver Johntay Cook, who also has Texas high on his list.

The four-star projects as a running back at the next level with his dominant play out of the backfield both in the running game and receiving game, something that his positional trainer, Jacory Nichols, sees as his dominant trait.

"Texas is getting a two-way back with speed and power," Nichols said. "With great vision and elite speed, he can turn it on in the third level and finish off runs. Still very raw, Texas is getting a great overall back."

Wisner joins Texas' class as its fourth commitment, joining four-star defensive back Jamel Johnson, four-star defensive lineman Dylan Spencer and three-star linebacker S'Maje Burrell.

At 6-foot-0, 180 pounds, Wisner is the No. 110 ranked recruit in the country for the class of 2023, according to Rivals. He is the No. 5 ranked athlete in the country and the No. 21 recruit from the state of Texas.
