Littleton (Colo.) Chatfield running back LenDale White was unable to attend any summer camps this year due to family obligations. His inability to go camping hasn’t turned away many recruiters though.
White has received recent offers from Kansas State and Arizona. Oregon has also told him that they will offer soon. Add those to existing offers from Texas, USC, Arizona State, and Pittsburgh and its apparent that White is lining up an impressive list of schools vying for his talents.
Despite the list of schools pursuing him, White, a 6-foot-2, 225-pounder, doesn’t have any clear favorites yet.
“I don’t want to limit my choices," White said. "I want to look at the schools who are interested in me and evaluate which would be the best situation. I’m not in any hurry to make a decision. Recruiting is going well for me. It’s an unbelievable feeling for this to be happening. I never imagined this would happen in a million years.”
Is there anything about the process that really stands out?
“One of the Texas coaches had told me he would call me as soon as it was legal. He was going to be the first. He made good on his promise, too. He called me at 5:00 a.m. on May 1. The phone woke me up. The sun wasn’t even up yet. He was the first, though. It impressed me that he showed that much interest in me.”
White rushed for 1,800 yards and scored 30 touchdowns last season in leading his team to the state title.
What else highlighted his season last year?
“Seeing my little cousin do so well was another great part of last season," White said.
The little cousin was sophomore Shawn White who led Chatfield in interceptions.
LenDale plans to spend his summer working out, working, and getting ready for football.
“We should have a good team next year. Hopefully we can repeat as state champions but it will be tough.”
