Four-star QB Tanner McKee receives big news

Late Wednesday night, Tanner McKee received a phone call.

The four-star quarterback from Corona (Calif.) Centennial did not mind the hour because it was Stanford coach David Shaw on the other end, with good news.

“Coach Shaw just called to tell me I was accepted into Stanford,” McKee said. “Pretty pumped about that.”

Stanford has long been considered one of the favorites for McKee, who will take a two-year Mormon mission after high school so he’s effectively a 2020 prospect.

Throughout his recruitment, the four-star standout has not rushed anything and has not really been all that concerned on the quarterback situation at each of his favorite schools.

Since he won’t be playing college ball for two more seasons, McKee has taken his time and is the only quarterback in the top 18 among pro-style prospects that has not committed yet.

Hearing that news from Shaw was definitely welcomed and this should only move Stanford even higher on the list.

“It’s huge,” McKee said.

“Their admissions process is so rigorous, unlike any other school. I knew I had a good chance of getting in but you just never really know until it’s confirmed.”

The timing was perfect. McKee is planning to take his official visit to Stanford this weekend. USC also wants him to visit in the coming weeks and he’s considering a return trip there as well. Alabama, Texas A&M and a few other programs remain in the mix, too.
