Four-star QB Modster picks Arizona

Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez knows offense. Devon Modster saw that the Wildcats throw it all over the field, they offered early and the four-star quarterback has committed to the Pac-12 team over UCLA and Boise State.

Modster, rated as the seventh-best quarterback in the 2016 class by Rivals.com, made his announcement public on social media at 2:22 p.m. (PT) Wednesday.
He wears No. 2 in high school, thus the significance.
The Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Tesoro standout said Arizona getting involved early played a big role in his decision. Much bigger, though, was that he felt extraordinarily comfortable with Rodriguez's offensive style.
"They were one of my first offers and that was very important," Modster said. "It felt like home there. It was a great environment and I like the coaches a lot.
"The offense fits me very well. I kind of want to do a spread offense in college. There are a lot of options in that offense. They do the read-option where you can hand it off to the running back or keep it or throw a bubble or slant if it's open."
What Modster also liked about Arizona's coaching staff is that it is going to play the best players. He is the second quarterback to commit in this class along with three-star Khalil Tate from Gardena (Calif.) Serra but Modster is looking forward to the competition once he gets to Tucson.
The four-star saw that Arizona played quarterback Anu Solomon early in his career and that helped Modster through the process.
"They're willing to play the best players no matter how old you are and I saw that with Solomon starting," Modster said.
Turning down Boise State and UCLA was tough.
His brother, Sean, plays for the Broncos and Modster said that would have been an incredible experience to play together. The four-star took his last unofficial visit to UCLA this past weekend but the Bruins did not win out in the end.
Plenty of other programs offered but in recent weeks the Tesoro standout narrowed it down to his final three choices. This past weekend at the IMG 7v7 West Regional, Modster said he was done with his trips and was ready to make his decision.
Wednesday afternoon was that time.
In his junior season, Modster threw for 2,500 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also rushed for 700 yards and 16 scores.
