Four-star QB Cameron Rising thrilled with Oklahoma pledge

When Cameron Rising took his summer visit to Oklahoma, before his pledge to the Sooners, coach Bob Stoops was not on campus.

He was doing some media at the ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn., but Stoops still went out of his way to communicate with Rising and it was one reason why the 2018 four-star was comfortable enough to make an early pledge.

“Stoops was not there so I had to Facetime him,” Rising said this past weekend at the Premium Sports 7on7 workout. “He was at the ESPN studios doing the ‘Car Wash’ and he was at the baseball field and he was on Facetime showing me the set.

“I text him all the time and we just talk. He told me to be ready to come and play, to be ready because it’s going to be fun.”

There were many reasons why Rising, rated as the fourth-best quarterback in his class, chose the Sooners. A big one was the long list of standouts who played his position.

Another was when he went to Norman and visited with the players, he hit it off with many of them.

“I’m extremely happy (with the decision),” Rising said. “The program is so good, they’re moving in the right direction. They had a slow start but then they picked it up and it was like a warm nice through butter.

“One thing that was big for me was meeting the players that were there. They were all so friendly and so nice. There was good team camaraderie around there so it was just very good.”

Following in the footsteps of Baker Mayfield, Sam Bradford and others also played a role for Rising, who had offers from all over the country.

“They have a great group of quarterbacks with Sam Bradford and Baker,” Rising said. “It’s a great program to be a quarterback in.”

Oregon and West Virginia recently offered the 2018 four-star quarterback and Florida is showing a lot more interest but Rising said his decision is final. The only visit he hopes to make in the coming months is to the Oklahoma spring game.
