Four-star QB Adrian Martinez updates commitment status

Adrian Martinez took a visit to Ohio State this past weekend, the same time when Tennessee fired coach Butch Jones.

The four-star quarterback from Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West said he remains committed to the Volunteers but will monitor the situation closely, especially as Tennessee figures out its coaching situation.

“At this time, I am still committed to Tennessee,” Martinez said. “We will see how things develop.

“I’m just going to take some time and see how things develop. The new coach is a big part of that.”

Committed to Tennessee since May, Martinez has said throughout this tumultuous season that his pledge stands but a surprise trip to Ohio State could make things even more interesting.

The Fresno Clovis West quarterback had been committed to Cal early in the recruiting process but soon after coach Sonny Dykes was replaced by Justin Wilcox, Martinez reopened his recruitment.

He picked Tennessee shortly after and now a coaching change in Knoxville could further muddy his situation.

Ohio State has not offered yet, even after the visit, but Martinez had some lengthy talks with co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes are definitely interested.

With an uncertain quarterback situation in this recruiting class since five-star commit Emory Jones is also considering Alabama, Martinez could be another option as signing day inches closer.

The visit to Columbus definitely left an impression.

“It was a great experience,” Martinez said of Ohio State. “I loved the atmosphere and the attitude carried by the program.”

The four-star quarterback is not planning any other trips at this time.
