Four-star living up to rep

Four-star offensive lineman John Martinez (6-3, 265, 4.75) from Salt Lake City (Utah) Cottonwood has certainly lived up to his lofty preseason ranking by being one of the catalysts for an offensive line that helped Cottonwood gain 530 yards of total offense.
Martinez did not allow a sack and his teammate three-star running back Isi Sofele (5-6, 160, 4.4) rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns.

In that game Cottonwood, rated No. 3 in the state (4A), took on St. George (Utah) Pine View, who were 2-0 and rated No. 2 (4A). One of Pine View's victories was against California power house, Compton (Calif.) Dominguez.
Since September 1st, Martinez has received phone calls from the likes of Arkansas, Arizona State, Colorado, Northern Arizona and bunch more.
Martinez still has a top four schools of UCLA, USC ,LSU and Ohio State. UCLA, USC and LSU also called. Ohio State had prior contact with Martinez.
LSU's recruiter, Gary Crowton had to drive to another part of the state because of the Hurricane to make his call.
"John is concentrating on his senior season," Steve Martinez, John's dad said. "We will be going to the USC/Ohio State game on an unofficial visit then we don't really have anything going recruiting wise until October when we will go to LSU when they Georgia."
Martinez earned a spot on the preseason Rivals.com Rivals100 team for 2009 landing as the nation's No. 78 prospect at any position. Rivals.com rates Martinez as the nation's No. 4 best run blocker, the nation's No. 2 best offensive center prospect and his rated the No. 2 most agile offensive lineman.
Martinez also made the Rivals.com Utah Preseason Top 15 team and is ranked as the Beehive state's No. 1 prospect at any position.
