Four-star linebacker to take in Miami opener

Billy Joseph

Billy Joseph’s next visit is, well, now.

The four-star linebacker has plenty of time to mull over his recruitment. He’s a class-of-2018 prospect, after all. But that doesn’t mean he’s taking a lackadaisical approach. It’s why he’ll be in the building for Miami’s season opener on Saturday and why he’ll be watching the contest from a particular perspective.

For Gibson, the game isn’t a recreational activity. This, he says, is a scouting trip.

“I’m just watching the defense. I want to see what that 4-3 looks like,” Joseph said. “I want to see how the scheme looks and where I could maybe fit in there.”

But it’s not just the Hurricanes that have the Miami Northwestern High School linebacker’s attention.

“Alabama is talking to me a lot,” Joseph said. “They are just telling me to come through. There are a lot of schools talking to me a lot, though. Miami and Alabama. Then, like West Virginia and UCF too.”

Joseph is ranked as the No. 14 outside linebacker and the No. 243 overall prospect in the 2018 class. He holds more than 15 scholarship offers.

IN HIS WORDS: Today, when the coaches were allowed to start talking to [juniors], my inbox was full,” Joseph said. “It was done full. I had, like 20 messages from coaches. It was crazy.”

RIVALS REACTION: Projecting Joseph’s landing spot is nearly impossible at this early juncture. His recruitment will take shape over the next year. That said, he seems particularly interested in Miami and Alabama as things stand now. Both will likely be involved in his recruitment until the end should they choose to be.
