THE SITUATION: Wynden Ho’ohuli decided to be patient in the recruiting process, wanted to wait and take visits later and then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and all travel was shut down so that became an impossibility.

That made his decision even more challenging as Nebraska, Utah, Washington and Kansas State emerged as the frontrunners.

The only school the four-star linebacker from Mililani, Hawaii, visited was Washington but he committed to Nebraska and said that his relationship with that coaching staff - and the consistency in how they recruited him - was the biggest selling point on why he picked the Huskers.

WHO IT HELPS: Nebraska already has one of the best classes in the Big 10 and this is a major commitment because the Huskers beat out two Pac-12 schools, one of which he visited, because the coaching staff made him feel like such a priority and made him feel comfortable going to Lincoln even though he’s never been there.

Ho’ohuli can fill the hole and knock running backs around or he can drop in coverage and play in space. He has the talent to contribute early for the Huskers.

WHO IT HURTS: Ho’ohuli’s recruitment was always a wild card since he took so long to get started on narrowing down his list and then he wasn’t able to take visits so it’s not necessarily like the other finalists lost out on getting him because none of those coaching staffs really had a major opportunity to land him.

It would hurt Washington maybe the most, though, since the Huskies were the only team to get him to visit and they still missed out on landing his commitment.
