THE LATEST: Reggie Hughes was on an unofficial visit to Washington State when he received news that another big-time offer had come in for him.

The four-star linebacker from Calabasas, Calif., had landed an offer from Michigan State and it took his teammate, four-star receiver Nikko Hall, to track down the Spartans coach to put the two in contact.

The fast, athletic and hard-hitting Hughes is definitely interested in Michigan State and things should ramp up even more when that coaching staff comes back to Calabasas next month.

Hughes has family in the area, he loves the Michigan State defense and it could be a school he seriously considers as his recruitment moves forward.

So far, the four-star has landed offers from Arizona State, Boston College, BYU, Hawaii, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, San Jose State, UCLA and Washington State.

IN HIS WORDS: “I wasn't at school because I'm in Washington right now going on my Washington State unofficial visits but Nikko (Hall) called me and said that the Michigan State coach was looking for me. Unfortunately, I wasn't there to see them in person but Nikko found the coach and gave the phone to him and we talked on the phone for a little and then they offered and said they were going to come back in May to see me. I was really happy and excited. It was a really big offer for me because I have a lot of family out there that's way on my dad’s side so I was really happy to get it plus I love the defensive players and the defense they have created and also that it's such a historical and traditional place.”

RIVALS’ REACTION: There is no getting around the fact that Nebraska did a phenomenal job at Calabasas last recruiting cycle and that the Huskers will be back for more top talent there. Hughes could be influenced by that as his recruitment continues.

The four-star definitely remains wide open early on though. UCLA has piqued his interest, he’s taken visits to other Pac-12 schools and now Michigan State entering the fray could be interesting.

Hughes has a ton of talent, he’s emerging as a top prospect in California and with family in the area the Spartans could become a serious player in his recruitment. If Michigan State continues to heavily pursue him and if Hughes takes a visit to East Lansing then the Spartans could be a team to watch here.
